The Adventure Continues...
The morning dawned a bit grey and damp, but thankfully the actual rain had passed during the night. With the early teacher birds up at the crack of dawn to check in with each other, they realized they had gotten through the night with no tears, nightmares, and minimal bathroom breaks. Great work grade 5! After a lively wake-up from the professional wake-up band, hot chocolate was served. With warm drinks to guard against the cool morning, students went off to morning electives at various venues around the campsite.
Following their morning activities, breakfast was served. Loaded with protein and carbs to energize and sustain everyone for the day, students ate with abandon. Satiated, the groups headed off to their final sessions. After finishing, it was time for the much anticipated hike! 31 eager campers headed off down the river to explore the local area. Accompanied by our short-term adopted campsite dog, Lucky, our walking caravan set off down the river to a small dam. Students found lots of cool rocks and ways to ford the shallow river, and it was only a couple of wet shoes later that the group turned around and headed back towards camp.
Just before the final lunch, some groups were able to present their unit inventions to the whole grade. There were a myriad of questions following such innovative inventions, and it was a great sharing space. With chicken sandwiches on the menu, the final lunch went down quickly, then it was back to the cabins for packing and clean up.
After gathering for a final debrief, children and adults alike loaded back on the bus to head for home. Back on campus, students seemed happy to be back, but filled with excitement to tell their family and friends all about their trip. We hope you hear all the little details and individual versions of the trip from your children. Have a fantastic weekend, and make sure everyone gets a well- deserved rest.
**Please note a few more photos and videos of the campfire sing along will be coming next week.
