Well, it's been another busy week here in grade 5! Here are a couple blurbs about the events this week:
Dragon's Den:
In our work up to Exhibition, we have been exploring our personal passions and linking them to global concepts. Using these investigations, we presented three topics to some 'dragons' (faculty members around school) that we might be interested in studying for Exhibition. Keep an eye on our Exhibition blog for further updates!
Poetry Slam:
After 5 weeks studying poetry in our reading groups, we had a poetry slam to celebrate our learning! Everyone worked hard to write their own poems using themes, figurative language, humor and their poetic license to write their own creative pieces. Performing them in front of the class, we were able to appreciate the unique creativity of each student, and had some celebratory awards at the end.
Digital Citizenship:
As part of our focus on respect recently, Mr. Chong came into our classes to discuss respect and citizenship when online. We brainstormed our ideas about digital citizenship, and after doing some research and further discussion, have come up with a document which we all have promised to stand by when working with tech. The final document will be posted soon.
Million Dollar Project Showcase:
Last but not least, we had a million dollar showcase afternoon, during which we were able to share our presentations, inform others of our learning, and detail the journey we went through during the last unit. We had students from all across the school, as well as parents stop by, and we are especially grateful to those who asked detailed and thoughtful questions.
Coming up on Monday is our kickoff to Exhibition! We may be outside for a lot of Monday-Wednesday, so please make sure your child dresses warmly and appropriately for the weather. We'd like to thank everyone for their support this week, well done grade 5!
